Gathering: Assemblage of Abundance
Aspiring to nurture human connection rather than forcing it means crafting an open invitation. The assemblage of my project plays with the formal language of an age-old ritual of human gathering – communal dining – while maintaining modularity to the extent that its purpose can be explored and debated on. Every component of the assemblage made up of ceramic sculptural vessels and steel cubes can be moved individually. The indents that also function as seating contain piles of food formed out of clay, inspired by Old Masters' paintings and abstracted through the properties of Majorelle blue.
The assemblage consists of 4 stainless steel mesh cubes, in which blue ceramic vessels are embedded. This can be seen as a prototype for developing furnitures that encourage gathering and dwelling in public spaces that don’t require consumption.
